Koppert Biological Solutions reproduces nature to improve greenhouse crop output, by using natural enemies and micro-organisms to combat pests and plant diseases. Koppert produces Bumblebees in their laboratories for natural pollination. Proper pollination of a cop flowers is the most critical process related to set, yield and quality. Poorly pollinated flowers never become premium crops, no matter how perfect a climate the grower creates. Pollination therefore deserves respect and the utmost attention.
Two important objectives of the CPRSX Climate Change Action Plan are to eradicate chemicals, pesticides and crop failure by the subsequent decline of natural pollinators. We resolved this problem by collaborating with Koppert to supply Bumblebee colonies for our Greenhouses. This is necessary also because pollination requirements are continuously changing due to market trends, new crop varieties, technological developments and the adverse effects of global warming and colony collapse disorders.
It is imperative to produce higher crop yields on less land areas; in controlled and protected growing environments. This objective demands innovative pollination solutions which we achieve through Koppert’s complete and natural solution to maintain consistent pollination of food crops. Natupol Bumblebee colonies produces at least 30% more pollination potential than chemical pollinators do. The Bumblebee colonies grow bigger and last longer. The hives are installed inside our greenhouses. This strategy helps bumblebees to use 20% less energy spent on cooling their bodies and heating the beehive.
